ST-PIERRE THE CHURCHES

A crazy charm! Saint-Pierre les Eglises is a magnificent yet very discreet building bordered by the Vienne river. The oldest preserved medieval building in Chauvigny can be guessed at the bottom of a cemetery of Merovingian origin, hidden by majestic trees. Push the door of this small church and move towards the apse. Another show is on offer, which makes the place famous: exceptional Carolingian frescoes, dating back to before the year 1000 and recently renovated, cover the entire walls. At Christmas, the sanctuary is famous for its lively crib. All year round the church can be the starting point for a walk along the banks of Vienna.
