CHÂTEAU DE COUSSAY
Inspired by the Italian Renaissance, it was one of the first castles of this style in France. Richelieu made it his home.
Château de Coussay dates back to the 16th century. Denis Briçonnet, prior of Coussay and bishop of Saint-Malo, inspired by the Italian Renaissance, built the residence on a 15th-century château-tour, surrounded by a moat. It became one of the first castles of the French Renaissance. Richelieu stayed here from 1608 to 1623, making minor modifications. Marie de Médicis even spent a few days there. After the French Revolution, the château changed ownership several times, but appears as it did when first built.
