THE CASTLE OF AIGNE
Castle built around 1442 by Jean II de Vivonne, registered as a historical monument in 1975.
On its rocky promontory, the castle of Aigne watches over the valley. At the crossroads of the Clain and the Aigne stream, this ancient fortress was built around 1442 by Jean II de Vivonne on the site of a Roman villa. Destroyed by the Wars of Religion, François de Barbezières and then his sister Françoise de Constance undertook to restore this monument at the end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th century. The portal, probably moved and coming from a building of Poitiers, would date from the 17th century. It was registered as a historical monument in 1975.
