A document of 1123 mentions a parish named Margniaco, another one mentioning the "Ecclesia de Margniaco Juxta Castrum Bellimontis" in 1133. The old castle of La Tour Signy is mentioned in 1444 in the archives of the duchy of Châtellerault. The ancient fief was under the control of the Marquisate of Clairvaux. Of the castle of La Tour Signy, destroyed in the 19th century, only a magnificent monumental portal remains which corresponds to the Henri IV style. It has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1943.
