PRIORY OF VILLESALEM
Romanesque priory with remarkable sculptures, a real treasure from Poitou which deserves a visit.
From the 12th century until the Revolution, this small priory was part of the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud. Today, it can be visited in summer to admire the volumes and sculptures of this Romanesque art. It is a real treasure from Poitou, unknown in the region, although it is really worth a visit. The western facade and the north portal called "Les Rois Sculptés" of the church Notre-Dame de la Paix will undoubtedly amaze you with its abundance of plants and animals, real or fantastic, which are intermingled, as well as the human representations.
