The castle is built on a rock. It is the first example in France of Renaissance construction from a medieval castle. It has a medieval keep, drawbridges, fortifications, but the main building is Renaissance. There is also a chapel. Royal residence, it belonged to Henri Boyer, François I, Jean Escoubleau de Sourdis and Richelieu. The site is currently being renovated.
