EGLISE SAINT-MARTIN ET SAINTE-MARGUERITE
Neo-Byzantine style church with a round bell tower resting on an octagonal base supported by a square tower in Les Ormes
The first church in Les Ormes was commissioned by Martin Pussort, builder of the Château des Ormes and Colbert's uncle, in 1655. His heart rests in the vault beneath the church's high altar. Around 1890, the monument's solidity was no longer optimal (the beadle fell from the bell tower and killed himself). So, in 1896, the present church was built. Neo-Byzantine in style, it features a round bell tower resting on an octagonal base supported by a square tower. A disconcerting style for its time!
