Hydroelectric dam of Chardes with 4 vertical turbines, its lake welcomes nautical activities
This hydroelectric power station, built in 1926 by the Société des forces motrices de la Vienne, became part of EDF in 1946. It is part of the La Roche plant group, which operates hydroelectric dams on the Vienne (including La Roche and Jousseau sur Millac). The 4 vertical turbines installed in 1947 provide a flow rate of 94 m³/s. The dam measures 270 m, with a head of 8.10 m and a reservoir covering 35 ha. Lac de Chardes is a lovely spot for swimming, water sports (water skiing...), hiking, relaxing...
