UNIVERSITY BOTANICAL GARDEN
Botanical garden of the University of Poitiers, home to well-known and forgotten species, medicinal and aromatic plants
A veritable open-air museum, that's how this 33-hectare estate could be presented, with its multitude of known and forgotten species. As soon as you enter, you stroll through the colorful alleys of the rose garden. Next, the arboretum reveals oaks, maples, viburnums, lilacs... and a few steps further on, you'll discover the fruit trees and vegetable garden. Further on, you'll come across a vast collection of medicinal and aromatic plants... and even some poisonous ones, just be careful! In addition to frogs, aquatic plants have made their home in the two ponds. Can you see the beautiful building? It dates back to the 18th century and now houses the administrative offices. The botanical garden is part of the heritage of the University of Poitiers and 9 hectares are dedicated to research. The nearby Domaine du Deffend is an ideal place for a stroll.
