MAISON-DIEU
Monastery-hospital founded by Robert, Lord of Le Puy, to welcome, feed and care for travellers and the sick
Founded by Robert du Puy, Lord of Montmorillon, in the 11th century to welcome travelers, it includes the Saint-Laurent chapel, a tower and a chauffoir. On one of the stages of the pilgrimage to Jerusalem, the Maison-Dieu was intended for pilgrims and had its heyday in the Middle Ages, before becoming a seminary in the 19th century, then a retirement home until 2009. A project is currently underway to restore the building and give it a new function.
