TITHES HOUSE
This house is the guardhouse of the old medieval castle.
The castle of Châtelus - house of tithes - is the guard house of the old medieval castle, whose last wall collapsed in 1915. Located on the border of the country of oïl and oc, the fortress is quoted for the first time in 1196 as the fief of Guichard de Châtelus. It consisted of a dungeon, on the top of the hillock next to the guardhouse, and included a double enclosure, a prison, a Romanesque chapel and the common. It became a tithe house and was used to store the tax collected in kind or in money for the benefit of the clergy. Today it is the residence of the painter Jean-Gabriel Jonin.
