LIBRAIRIE DE L’UNIVERSITÉ

Since 2014, the famous Librairie de l'Université has been located on the outskirts of Poitiers. Don't let its "tin shed" exterior sway you, inside you'll find all the dignity and comfort of a very large 535 m² bookshop, with a big belly of 148,000 volumes. The space is bright, and the wooden shelves climb like a skyscraper. This is why the bookseller will use the giraffe to grab the book of your choice. Don't ask if the beast is a recent escapee from a nearby zoo; it's just a ladder on wheels. Half of the library is always well-stocked with academic books, and the other half is more general books (poetry, novels...) where many languages are available (English, German, Italian, Russian, Arabic...). You will always have the choice between new and second-hand books. The youngest will be eager to browse through the children's section and the wooden toys, and perhaps the teenagers will even sit up and take notice of the electronic games or the more classic ones such as Trivial Pursuit or the large selection of comics and mangas. Finally, the bookshop still sells paintings and art objects, some of which come from private collections and some of which belong to the shop. A stationery section for school and emergency supplies.
