UNIVERSITÉ DE POITIERS
It was Pope Eugene IV who founded the University of Poitiers in 1431. It consisted originally of five faculties: theology, canon law, civil law, medicine and arts. Two centuries later, it was already the guarantor of radiation on the cultural life of the city. At that time, it was cited as the second university of France, after Paris. New faculties will emerge, the past Revolution: letters, science… Joachim of Birthplace, Guez de Balzac, François Rabelais, René Descartes, Francis Bacon, Scévole de Sainte-Marthe… they all went through the University of Poitiers!
