IRJS (INSTITUTION RÉGIONALE DES JEUNES SOURDS)
A rare thing in France, this institution supports the schooling of deaf young people aged 3 to 20. Founded by the brothers of Saint-Gabriel in 1856, the institution is now managed by the association APSA, the Association for the Promotion of Deaf People, Blind and Sourdaveugles. For those who wonder what can be the life of a private person in these two senses, Lire Keller's "History of my life" emergency read: this blind deaf young person succeeds brilliantly in university studies, before creating an active foundation that meglio many donations, redistributed to deaf and blind people. How did she communicate? Especially through a system of "tactile signs", spelled in the hands of the interlocutors. Today, it is the CESSHA (independent of iRJS) that welcomes young deaf people with associated disabilities.
