THE MEDIEVAL RAMPARTS

Visit the medieval ramparts built by Duke Jean de Berry in Poitiers.
Work of the duke Jean de Berry (XIVth century), the enclosure is part of a whole started in the XIIth century and continued until the XVIth century. From these 6.5 kilometers of fortifications remain some frail vestiges: the beautiful crenellated tower of Vouneuil (rue des Remparts), the Aymar de Beaupuy tower (Pont Achard), the remains of the castle of Jean de Berry at the confluence of the Clain and the Boivre, the Bénisson tower (under the penetrante). Let's not forget either the Cordier tower, traffic circle of the Porte de Paris, and the ramparts of the Parc de Blossac, rebuilt in 1786.
