LA RUE DE LA CHAÎNE
Picturesque street lined with old medieval half-timbered houses located in Poitiers
Very steep and steep, this picturesque street is lined with old medieval timber-framed houses. Its name comes from two supposed reasons: in the Middle Ages, the condemned prisoners climbed it with great difficulty and noise with their chains on their feet; another version, always at the same time, a large chain was stretched out every evening on both sides of the street, in order to prevent the assailants from reaching the heart of the city. Going down to the first street on the right, the rue Saint-Germain is lined with beautiful private mansions (15th and 16th centuries).
