THE ARCHES OF PARIGNY
The arches of Parigny are one of the main vestiges of the aqueduct which drew water from the Basse-Fontaine spring
Three Roman aqueducts supplied the city of Lemonum (Poitiers) with water in the1st century AD. The arches of Parigny are one of the main remains of the aqueduct which drew water from the Basse-Fontaine spring (the other two from the Cimeau and Fleury springs). In the park, three arches and seven piers are visible. Fragments of the underground parts continue to be unearthed. Like many ancient remains, the arches of Parigny were a source of fascination and inspiration, and can be seen in engravings and views of Poitiers from that period.
