CASTLE OF LA ROUVRAYE
This medieval castle houses a chapel dedicated to Urban II, the pope who launched the first crusade
This medieval château is arranged in a U-shape around its courtyard, which houses a chapel dedicated to Urban II, the pope who issued the call for the first crusade. Originally a defensive castle, Château de la Rouvraye was built on troglodytic cellars. During the Renaissance, it was extensively modified to become a château de plaisance. Today, the square tower, the round tower (the dovecote), the Renaissance façade and the interior galleries bear witness to these architectural changes.
