SANCTUAIRE GALLO-ROMAIN DE MAZAMAS
Gallo-Roman archaeological site, one of the rare sanctuaries installed in the century BC on a previous Celtic site.
This Gallo-Roman archaeological site is one of the rare sanctuaries installed in the first century BC on a previous Celtic site. All that remains is an enclosing wall and what must have been a habitat. It was discovered in 1945 by Father Florentin Reix, parish priest of Saint-Léomer, when some farmers were clearing stones to repair a road. From 1964 and during more than 30 years, Emile de Lavergne excavates it. Pottery, coins and other pieces are in the museum of Montmorillon.
