CHAPELLE DES AVOINES
Chapel founded after a queen tried to flee her husband to become a nun and saved by the "Miracle of the Oats" in Saix
The "Miracle of the Oats" would have taken place in Saix in the 6th century, when Radegonde, queen of the Franks and wife of King Clothaire I, tried to flee her husband to become a nun in Poitiers. With soldiers on her tail, she asked a peasant to sow some oats to hide her and her followers. The field was then covered with oats, hiding them and allowing them to continue on their way without hindrance. Once they arrived, Radegonde founded the abbey of Sainte-Croix de Poitiers. In Saix, a procession takes place every year on August 15.
