SAINT-HILAIRE CHURCH
A church with fine Gothic features, a crypt, a carved wooden Virgin and Child, and a chapel dedicated to Neomaye.
The church of Saint-Hilaire, the first bishop of Poitiers, was built on the site of an earlier sanctuary. The present building dates back to the 12th century, and was modified in the 15th century. It has all the hallmarks of Gothic architecture from this period. Don't miss its square choir, entrance porch, crypt and carved wooden Virgin and Child. One of the chapels (the largest) is dedicated to the local saint, Néomaye. A place of pilgrimage, every January 14, pilgrims invoke the saint against sorrow and physical ailments.
