SITE CASTRAL DU HAUT CLAIRVAUX
The châtelain area houses the last tower of the Haut-Clairvaux castle and a castral chapel.
On the Haut-Clairvaux hill, the castle dominates the valley. All that remains of the castle built by the powerful lords of Clairvaux and fortified by Richard the Lionheart in the 11th century is the keep. This 28-meter-high master tower can be seen from afar (the highest point in the Haut-Poitou region). The 4-hectare castle complex includes a 12th-century Notre-Dame-des-Vergers chapel, surrounded by a dry moat. The site has been listed as a Monument Historique since 1929.
