CHÂTEAU DE MARMANDE
Remarkable castle, with a 30-meter-high tower, set on a rocky spur in Vellèches.
The Marmande tower can be seen from afar. Standing 30 metres high, it dominates the surrounding countryside. Situated on a rocky spur on the border between Touraine to the north, Poitou to the south and Anjou to the west, Château de Marmande appears in charters dating back to the year 1000. The oldest walls date back to the 11th century. The tower is part of a fortified enclosure, with a dwelling and two wings of outbuildings, as well as numerous underground passageways. After three years of renovation, it opens its doors to tell its story.
