LAC D'ALLOS

Located in the heart of the Mercantour National Park, Lac d'Allos is a true jewel of nature. With a surface area of 54 ha and a depth of 48 m, it is a natural mountain lake situated at an altitude of 2,228 m. You'll be speechless at the sight of such a mix of colors: the blue of the water with the reflections of the surrounding gray mountains, the green of the alpine lawns and larch trees... The walk is grandiose, amidst a landscape of outstanding beauty. Access to Lac d'Allos is by foot, and its length depends on where you choose to start from. The parking lot at Le Laus is reached via a small mountain road open to traffic from mid-June to mid-October (unless the weather is dangerous). From the village of Allos, it's a 7-hour round-trip hike following the red and white GR56B markings. From the Cluite parking lot: 5h round trip; and from the Laus parking lot: 1h30 round trip. Hikers will be delighted to discover the mountain refuge by the lake for a well-deserved break, lunch or overnight stay! Open from mid-June to mid-September. Caution is advised if you go in winter. During the whole winter period (from November to May, depending on the year), the itinerary passes through avalanche-prone areas, with a number of really dangerous couloirs, and the telephone doesn't always work.
