LAVENDER MUSEUM
Museum offering sound and light shows on the history of lavender growing in the Digne-les-Bains area.
Digne-les-Bains celebrates fine lavender through three major events: the lavender corso in early August, the lavender fair at the end of the same month, and since 2015, the inauguration of a dedicated museum. More precisely, it's the lavender sound and light museum, a vibrant tribute to the little blue flower, symbol of the region. Located in the heart of the town center, this superb museum is accessible from the "Les Lavandières en Provence" boutique on the first floor, where it occupies the second floor. This initiative is the brainchild of Philippe Nicolosi, founder of Nicolosi Créations, which specializes in the handcrafting of olfactory products such as perfume diffusers, soaps, eaux de toilette, candles, incense, cosmetics, etc. The museum and boutique coexist in perfect harmony here.
The museum offers sound and light shows recounting the history of lavender cultivation in the Digne-les-Bains area, from 1900 to the present day, with the projection of an attractive film. Also very popular are free lavender distillation demonstrations in July and August, in a shaded inner courtyard, using an old still from the 1900s. Fun and highly instructive for young and old alike, the sessions last around 1/2 hour and are commented on by the distillers. Two sessions are organized every day from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. and from 4:00 to 4:30 p.m. (except Sundays) in July and August. An olfactory experience not to be missed!
