CLASSIFIED CEMETERY
The Forcalquier Cemetery is laid out in 3 terraces with a cloister of greenery formed by avenues of pruned yew and arched hedges.
The Forcalquier cemetery has been classified as a departmental monument since 1946. The site is famous for its green cloister formed by avenues of pruned yew trees. At the beginning of the 20th century, a gardener came up with the idea of planting yew trees to create a plant structure for the cemetery. The cemetery is laid out in three terraces, the most interesting of which is the lower one, lined with yew trees some 3 metres high and several hundred metres long, forming a string-cut green cloister with openings overlooking the tombs.
