ECOMUSEUM LA JAVIE ONCE
Ecomuseum in a former presbytery, with objects, photographs and documents related to the history of La Javie around 1900
This small atypical museum is located, above the bakery, in the former presbytery of the village of La Javie, near Digne-les-Bains. 400 souls in the year, but a crazy energy for this small village, and the will not to forget the know-how and the trades of yesteryear in this valley of the Bès, famous for its archaeological treasures. The objects, photographs and documents presented in this former presbytery are mostly donated by the inhabitants and tell the story of the village around 1900. Thanks to the hard work of a handful of volunteers and the donations of the inhabitants, the museum allows you, on three levels of exhibition, to discover the life of the villagers 100 years ago. You will discover the classroom, the grocery store, the kitchen, the shoemaker's workshop, the tinsmith, the grinder, but also the commitment of the Poilus of La Javie during the 14-18 war. The visit, provided by the volunteers members of the Association, is lively, detailed and accessible to children. A museum with an old-fashioned charm which is worth a visit for the synergy of the inhabitants who allowed its creation and continue to make it live. In addition, you can buy the booklet of delicious recipes from the past (Sarteau pear), for a small fee, as well as the "old hamlets walking booklet" on sale at the bakery. Admission is free, so don't hesitate to pick up the phone to plan your next visit!
