THE POINTED SHEDS
A dozen sheds testify to the skill of and century farmers in Mane.
These ten or so sheds, 3 to 7 metres high, can be described as true masterpieces of rural architecture, and bear witness to the skill of the farmers of the 18th and 19th centuries. Built entirely of dry stone, they have neither arch nor binder and seem to defy the laws of gravity thanks to the technique of progressive corbelling, a bit like a very large igloo! Used as shelters, sheds or even sheepfolds, they sometimes have windows, chimneys and even cupboards... also made of stone!
