In 1984, Manosque had the 19th century Convent of the Presentation restored with the intention of having a contemporary paint an Apocalypse according to Saint John. Jean Carzou's work began in 1985 and lasted 7 years, ending in June 1991, when the Carzou Foundation (created in 1988) opened it to the public.
