THE FORT OF DORMILLOUSE
Fortress dating from 1862, offering a Dantesque panorama of the Ubaye and Serre-Ponçon lakes from Montclar.
This fortress dates back to 1862 and was an integral part of the defense of the Southern Alps against Italy, serving as a relay on an optical transmission line linking Grenoble to Toulon. In addition to its geographical location on a peak, Dormillouse, whose name evokes the marmot, at an altitude of 2,500 meters, is a superb site offering a Dantesque panorama of the Ubaye and Serre-Ponçon lakes. Every year in July, a "ran'dormillouse" hike is organized on the site, with a brass band playing in the fort.
