ANCIENT CATHEDRAL
Cathedral placed in the axis of the baptistery, with some remains exhumed during the last archaeological excavations in Riez.
Riez was the seat of a bishopric, and an important episcopal complex was built during the5th century A.D., on the remains of the ancient Roman baths, using some of the stones of its walls. Placed in the axis of the baptistery, this cathedral was dismantled at the end of the 15th century and transferred inside the village walls. Nowadays, only a few vestiges remain, exhumed during the last archaeological excavations, which allow us to locate its former location and the important dimensions of the building at that time.
