ASTRONOMY CENTRE
Fun astronomy center with a larger 760 mm telescope ideal for daytime and evening observations
This astronomy center must not be confused with the Observatoire de Haute-Provence of the CNRS installed a few kilometers further north of the center of Saint-Michel-l'Observatoire. Thus, in addition to the work carried out within the OHP, the Astronomy Center ensures a mission of diffusion of the scientific culture, and proposes for this reason thematic animations as well as day sessions. This playful center is designed to satisfy all audiences, whatever their age, interested in astronomy. Conferences are proposed, as well as observation evenings in large diameter telescopes, observations of the Sun, specific week-ends, astronomy courses, workshops, exhibitions... The field of possibilities is very large!
Throughout the year, you have for example the possibility to observe the sun or to spend an evening "T600". Under this mysterious name hides the largest telescope of the center, with a diameter of 600 mm. From 9 pm to midnight, it will make you discover "the splendors of galaxies, nebulae, star clusters and other objects from the farthest reaches of space, while remaining integrated into the very terrestrial environment of our planet".
And in summer every year, from June to mid-September, a festival of the Astro Summer is organized, with observations during the day and in the evening, telescope evenings, planetarium sessions, and visits to the Haute-Provence Observatory! An establishment not to be missed for all the curious.
