THE MUSEUM OF SAINT-PAUL-SUR-UBAYE
A museum where you can discover the tools, gestures and work of ubayan rural society.
This museum is part of the Musée de la Vallée network, which comprises a total of five establishments throughout the Ubaye valley, a highly instructive network for those wishing to learn about life in the valley in days gone by. In Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye, come and discover a panorama of farm machinery and tools collected in Ubaye. This museum displays the tools, gestures and work of Ubaye rural society, before it was invaded by mechanization and the generalization of trade. It also presents two activities specific to the area: hemp and wool processing. It is dedicated to the blacksmith Albert Manuel, who equipped it with models that are both beautiful and educational, teaching the traditional gestures of the valley: transporting wood, water mills... An old-fashioned kitchen has also been reconstructed, along with a collection of old clothes and naturalized animals.
A very good point: this structure is sensitive to the needs of disabled people. Guided tours, small workshops, film screenings... are all part of the experience. Temporary exhibitions are also regularly on offer.
Finally, we'd like to point out that during its opening period and only in high season, it houses a Tourist Information Point, which can be very useful on site, as otherwise the nearest Tourist Information Office is in Jausier. A double reason to visit this friendly little museum!
