Tourist office in Simiane-la-Rotonde, a town famous for its castle with a beautiful view from the terrace, guided tour on site

The Château de Simiane-la-Rotonde is a historic site located in the village of Simiane, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Listed as a Monument Historique since 1841, the château has been restored by the municipality and is now open to visitors. It houses the famous rotunda, a 12th-century keep and five rooms open to the public, including two dedicated to aromatic and medicinal plants. A visit to the château is an opportunity to immerse oneself in the millennia-old history of this building, which has undergone several alterations over the centuries. The oldest part of the château is the tower in the shape of a truncated cone, over 18 meters high. A permanent exhibition traces the history of the castle and the family who owned it. The centerpiece of the château is the ceremonial hall, with its magnificent dome and spiral ribs. From the terrace, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views over the village rooftops, lavender fields (in season) and wooded hills. The château also offers guided tours and hosts cultural events, including a summer festival of early music.

Beautiful original monument, visit followed by a conference on aromatherapy spoiled by a scam in a shop selling inside the castle. One sold to us at the cost of the oil of lavender (£20) simple diffuser which was to be accompanied by a bottle of petrol. The pretty package once demolishes at home did not contain oil lavender. A little expensive. Clear impression on the market. It is better to buy local producers outside...
