OLD CITY
An authentic city with steep, knife-edged streets, arched ramps, medieval facades and fountains.
The (very) old Sisteron can be visited by diving into its eventful past and glorious history. It is nestled behind the bell tower of the Notre-Dame church, between the citadel and the Durance. Its steep, knife-edged streets, its sparse light that pierces the tall, rigid houses, its vaulted ramps and medieval facades with their richly decorated doors, its fountains that refresh the superb squares, and its convents that once animated the town with an intense religious life, make Sisteron an extremely well-preserved authentic town.
