THE CHURCH AND ITS TOWER - REMAINS OF THE MEDIEVAL CASTLE
Visit of the church and its tower, also called dungeon-belfry which is of an impressive height in Thoard
The church and its tower, also called "donjon-clocher", classified as a historical monument, are of an impressive height. Like one of its altarpieces, it dates back to the 12th century, the other altarpiece dating from 1677. From the top, the view is fabulous. Still surrounded by ramparts and dominating the Duyes valley, Thoard is worth a look and is a fine example of medieval architecture with a defensive look. The castle shelters among other things a surprising gypsum fireplace from 1692.
