The Musée Peynet et du Dessin Humoristique is located in the town of Antibes. It is dedicated to the work of cartoonist Raymond Peynet, famous for his humorous sketches of the amorous couple "Les Amoureux de Peynet". The work depicts a romantic young man next to his tall-hatted fiancée in an elegant gown. The artist's work deals with themes of everyday life, as well as more weighty, topical issues such as politics and war. During his lifetime, he received numerous distinctions, most notably the Légion d'honneur in 1976. Known and recognized for his work, his drawings are popular the world over.
Established in 1990, the museum is housed in a former fort dating back to the 16th century. It houses a permanent collection of Peynet's works, including original drawings, watercolors, sculptures and engravings.
The permanent collection is regularly supplemented by temporary exhibitions devoted to other cartoonists and caricaturists. You'll find drawings by artists such as Plantu, Dubout, Chenez, Blachon, Moison and many others. The museum also organizes workshops for children and adults, as well as lectures and film screenings.
The Musée Peynet et du Dessin Humoristique is a popular destination for admirers of Raymond Peynet's work, as well as for fans of cartoons in general.
