Since it was created in 1971, Cannes Youth, a popular education association, has been open to the public at large for a range of socio-educational activities. Its International Youth Hostel is installed in the Genoese Fort Royal, a classified historical monument on Sainte Marguerite island, one of the two Lérins islands off Cannes. This 167 ha island, forested with Aleppo pines, parasol pines and eucalyptus, is a peaceful haven where automobiles and bicycles are banned.
