THE VILLA DOMERGUE
A beautiful house in a green setting opens every summer to the public and becomes an exhibition place not to be missed
In a green setting, this pretty house, formerly known as Villa Fiesole, was built in 1934 on a land purchased at the foot of California by Jean-Gabriel Domergue. The painter designed and decorated the building with details while his wife, a sculptor, created the terraced gardens landscaped with ponds and waterfalls. Jean-Gabriel Domergue died in 1962, and Odette Maudrange-Domergue bequeathed the property to the City of Cannes in 1973. According to the wish expressed by the couple, their bodies -buried in the Grand Jas cemetery- were then transferred to the villa in November 2000. The site is opened to the public every summer and becomes a must-see exhibition place. During the Film festival in Cannes, Villa Domergue welcomes jury members of the festival to deliberate the official Awards.
