UPDATE: I've stayed twice more, and this hotel has been consistently excellent. I once again found the property very relaxing, and the staff continued to make me feel appreciated as a guest through exceptional service. I've also developed an appreciation for the location: in addition to offering shuttles to various destinations in the principality, the bus stop literally across the street will take you to most places in the Monaco without a connection, and everywhere with a connection. It's even on the N1 line, so you can get bus service late at night.

This is my second time staying at this property, and while it's not the most exciting hotel, it excels at keeping guests happy and comfortable, which to me is exactly what a hotel should always get right.

I had the hotel arrange a black car airport transfer for me, and the company they used was very professional and was able to bill the hotel so I didn't have to worry about finding a way to pay after 26 hours of being awake and traveling.

Upon arrival, there was an issue with my room not being ready yet. Normally I would have weathered this without a problem and just gone to the pool or bar, but I had a terrible time traveling and was very tired. I sat in the lobby and cycled through various stages of consciousness. Regardless, within an hour they had a room available.

When I got to the room, I found that they had upgraded me from a basic no-view room, to a corner waterfront view king suite with balcony! I was not at all expecting this, and it more than made the wait worthwhile. After getting a shower and clean clothes, I immediately slept a couple hours, woken up by housekeeping dropping off candies, which was amazing.

I ordered room service and actually ended up with more food than expected because the room service menu wasn't miniaturized like at many hotels... In addition, the manager sent me up a bottle of champagne and some crackers that I enjoyed later in the evening on my balcony, which further helped me unwind.

Even though I planned to wake up early to get breakfast, the bed was too comfortable to get out of; I'm serious, if there was ever a bed I needed for catching up on sleep after being awake for 27 hours, this was it. It's also notable that the room was extraordinarily quiet. I actually slept through my alarm and was late to check out by a few minutes... about which the front desk was extremely kind.

My next hotel wasn't ready for check-in yet, so the front desk held my bags while I spent the afternoon at a nearby cafe. When I got back, they called me a taxi and I had a gin and tonic at the bar while I waited.

The Riviera Marriott Hotel La Porte de Monaco is top-notch hotel and an excellent option if you want a quiet experience and a staff that appreciates you as a guest. I'm already planning to stay here for an extended period next time instead of making the mistake again of only staying for one night.
