SEPT-FONS ABBEY
Visit to discover a Cistercian abbey that stands on the banks of the Loire at Dompierre-sur-Berbre.
The Abbey Notre-Dame de Sept-Fons, historically known as Abbaye Notre-Dame de Saint-Lieu, rises on the banks of the Loire, at the edge of the departments of the Allier de la Saône and Loire and Nièvre. Belonging to the Order of Cîteaux, it was founded in 1132 and rebuilt after the Revolution in the eighteenth century. In 1845 Cistercian monks returned to the site to never leave. Today, with more than 70 monks, rallied to the reform of the Trappe, the Abbey Notre-Dame of Sept-Fons continues its path towards God and remains faithful to the deposit of its legislator Saint Benedict: «Do not prefer the love of Christ».
