Created in the 1970s on the Calern plateau at an altitude of 1,200 m west of Nice in the direction of the Parc des Préalpes d'Azur, this observatory specializes in advanced fields of astronomy. It has notably allowed the discovery of numerous asteroids. Since 1988, it is part of the Observatoire de la Côte d'Azur (Observatory of the French Riviera). The site is spectacular and wild and justifies a detour in itself. Because of the high altitude, plan warm clothes, drinks, and sun protection.
