Monument turned museum symbolizing the power of the Roman Empire with a model of its reconstruction, documents and objects.

Built on the border between Italy and Gaul in the year 6 B.C., to the glory of the nephew of the emperor Augustus, this monument, now a museum, symbolizes the power of the Roman Empire. A treasure of architecture and history composed of a circular Doric colonnade, which then had niches where statues of all the generals who had distinguished themselves during the campaigns of Augustus were placed. Inside the enclosure of the trophy, there is a model of the reconstruction of the monument as well as many documents and objects.

Un phare de la Via Augusta
Ce monument romain se voit de très très loin. Il est rené de ses "pierres" au début du 20ème siècle grâce à un mécène américain. 50 m de hauteur, entouré de colonnes, il célèbre la soumission par Auguste, fils de Jules, des peuplades alpines ainsi vaincues. Très impressionnant. Magnifique panorama en particulier sur Monaco.

Passionnée d'histoire de l'art et de l'époque romaine, je voulais découvrir ce monument édifié par l'empereur Auguste à sa gloire. Le monument est assez impressionnant mais il faut savoir qu'il est plus impressionnant de loin que de près ! s'éloigner et trouver un point de vue donne l'occasion de faire des photos très sympas. Le monument en lui même est, hélas, comme tous monument de cette époque beaucoup reconstitué, mais cela donne quand même une bonne idée. On peut aussi monter sur le trophée accompagnés d'un employé, avec très belle vue sur Monaco et la côte. A noter : pas mal de parkings gratuits, ça veut la peine de les chercher même si les premiers qu'on voit sont pleins !
