OPEN THROAT LATHE
A tower that was used to reinforce the castle in Lucéram and allows you to admire the labyrinth of winding streets of the village.
The counts of Provence settled in Lucéram in the 13th century and built their castle there. Its defensive system was reinforced in 1295 under the reign of Charles II of Anjou. The remains of the "tower open to the throat" testify to this period. This strange name is given to a fortified structure with a circular plan open towards the courtyard of the castle, in the shape of a horseshoe. In case of capture by the invaders, they could not use the tower to attack the place... From the top, you can admire the labyrinth of tortuous streets of the village.
