Located on the edge of the old port, very close to the Bastion, Place Fontana has recently been renovated with a renovation of the façades in the colours of Menton, and a restoration of the painted decorations. Formerly known as "Place du petit port", Place Fontana covers an area of about a thousand square metres along the quayside of Monléon. The Fontana family was originally from Recco, on the Riviera of the Levant, near Genoa. Among their descendants Louis Fontana held positions of responsibility in the life of Menton: founder and president of the production cooperative, president of the agricultural union and mayor of the city from 1905 to 1929. Officer of the Legion of Honour, officer of the Academy, knight of Agricultural Merit he died in Menton on August 10, 1951.
