This garden has become a specialized conservatory for the Rutaceae family.
The former summer residence of the Princes of Monaco (Grimaldi family), created in the 18th century (1725) by the architect Latour, is now home to the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Menton, whose garden has become a specialized conservatory for the great Rutaceae family. With over 400 specimens and 137 species, you can admire Europe's largest collection of citrus trees, including oranges, sour orange, kumquats, lemons, grapefruits and many others. This citrus garden plays an active role in Menton's international reputation, and the lemon has become the city's emblem, honored at the beginning of each year with the Fête du Citron® event. The garden is also home to a wide variety of plant species, some of them rare and exotic, such as palms, cacti, orchids and citrus trees. The garden is also known for its magnificent fountains, ponds, sculptures and picturesque pavilions. To learn more about the garden's flora, fauna and history, guided tours are offered by the Heritage Department on the first Wednesday of each month. This Garden of Eden, a peaceful haven of fragrant colors and scents, is open to the public and offers a relaxing stroll through the gardens, as well as a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean Sea. It's an ideal place to relax and enjoy nature in magnificent surroundings.
