CEMETERY OF THE MONASTERY OF CIMIEZ
It is located next to the Cimiez monastery founded in the 9th century by the Benedictine monks. This pretty little cemetery with monumental tombs contains several tombs of celebrities who have lived in Nice. Those that lie here are two great masters of the 20th century painting: Henri Matisse and Raoul Dufy. Matisse's grave is very large: it's a large clean plateau, a little away from the others. Dufy's is quite difficult to find: small and discreet, very low and almost hidden, it is located at the gateway that connects the garden of the monastery to the cemetery. Other celebrities, Henri Martin du Gard, Nobel Prize for Literature in 1937. Other unknown persons also have their place marked by some very ancient monuments, looking like real miniature chapels decorated with white marble sculptures that will amaze many visitors.
