BELLANDA TOWER
A fortified Structure with a military vocation, the Tower Bellanda, the guardian of the Baie des Anges since the Middle Ages, is 92 m high and is now one of the passages required to reach the top of the hill hill in the south. This monument, remnant of a fortified tower of the medieval citadel, was built on an ancient acropolis. In 1825, she was transformed into a mere lookout before welcoming, between 1831 and 1844, the famous composer Hector Berlioz who, inspired by these landscapes, wrote the opening of King Lear. Destroyed in 1944 and rebuilt, you will enjoy the magnificent views of the old town, the promenade des Anglais and the Baie des Anges after having mounted the many stairs of the «Lesage» staircase (or take the paid lift at the foot of the tower!). Today the building houses the Naval Museum dedicated to the Maritime History of Nice and its region.
