109, CONTEMPORARY CULTURES CLUSTER
A cultural space dedicated to art, dance, architecture and shows in the former slaughterhouses of the city of Nice.
In 2008, the artists' collective "La Station", which promotes contemporary art, decided to reinvest this site, which was originally the former abattoirs of the city of Nice. Numerous temporary exhibitions were held. Later, the site was converted into an artistic and broader cultural space by Chantier Sang Neuf (hence the name), which hosted various musical events such as festivals and concerts. The 18,000m2 site offers a wide range of possibilities, comprising 3 distinct spaces: La Grande Halle, Le Frigo 16 and La Table Ronde.
Its conversion doesn't stop there, however, as it is now home to major new players in Nice's cultural life, offering a creative space for visual artists to set up their studios, as well as the Urban Planning and Architecture Forum and the Entre-Pont collective, which brings together a number of live performance associations. There's also the Antipodes dance company and Botox(s), the Alpes et Riviera contemporary art network.
As you can see, this is a perfect example of the successful conversion of an industrial site into a major cultural and artistic venue on the Côte d'Azur. It's the ideal place to explore Nice's heritage while enjoying an atypical, artistic evening. The program, available on the website, includes numerous exhibitions, concerts, dance performances and film screenings.
