ARCHAEOLOGICAL CRYPT
A place to admire a perfect cylinder of Nice's Pairolière tower.
More than thirty steps lead us to the most interesting archaeological discovery of the last twenty years! Work on the tramway brought to light some 2,000m2 of astonishingly well-preserved medieval and ancient remains, just 6 m below ground, telling the story of several centuries of Nice's history. Visitors can admire a perfect cylinder of the 14th-century Pairolière tower, the aqueduct supplying water to the gardens of the Sardinian palace in old Nice, the ruins of the house in the medieval Augustins suburb, the huge 17th-century Saint-Sébastien bastion, the fortification ditches and the pillars of the old bridge leading to the Turin road. An extraordinary visit into the past.
